The warpaint wearing troupe Man Man is back and they’re sounding as frantic and sinister as ever. On “Dark Arts” organ and bass stride along urgently and marimba mallets go flying through the air. Meanwhile frontman Honus Honus asks us if we can feel it between frenzied yelps. Don’t worry Man (Man), we certainly do.

While we’re not told exactly what day is coming, Jim James’ assurance that it’s near fills me with excitement all the same. The music itself sounds like an impending event slowly creeping in our direction while the rest of the band gingerly urges it along. This mysterious journey coupled with soaring and euphoric vocals makes “The Day Is Coming” one of my favorite songs off of the upcoming album Circuital.

Filled with swirling psychedelic guitars and groovy 60’s organ, the lead track off of Here We Go Magic’s recent EP sounds like something that could be found on Caribou’s Andorra. It’s really great to hear these guys expanding on the dreamy, lush sounds they started with on their self-titled debut album in 2009.
